Why don't classic Wall Street books us $$ to refer to share prices?
Recently, I read both The Intelligent Investor and reminiscence of an operator weeks. Both were written before 1950. In these books (and others of the same period), stock prices are not measured in U.S. dollars. It is simply a number (no dollar sign). I know that this number is not the price in dollars, because it is much too high (for example, most stock prices were between 70-150, which is obviously not the case in the early 1900s dollar wise). Also, very rarely the dollar price is given and it is always different (much lower) than the other number that is so frequently used.Examples of direct;
"I think I told you it was my experience
whenever a stock crosses 100 or 200 or 300 for the first time
almost always it continues to increase from 30 to 50 points and after
300 faster than after 100 or 200. "
^ From Reminiscence ... Of course, these "points" are not dollars. What are they?
I think the author is tying to point out that these numbers are the psychological barriers. It does not matter if it is rupees on the Indian stock market, books on a UK stock market, or dollars on a U.S. stock market.
In using the word "points" instead of "dollars" the same principle applied to different markets.

Records and interviews show that, with Wall Street facilitate, Greece, engaged in a decade-long effort to circumvent the limits of European debt. One Deal created by Goldman Sachs helped mysterious billion in debt from the budget supervisors in Brussels.
