Starting Kit for Golf?

I am just starting to play golf and need a set of clubs, but do not know where to start. I saw an ad on craigslist, which consists of the following:
Smith Stand Golf Bag
- Wilson Deep Red Driver
- Hippo 5 wood
- 3 Wood Nicklaus
- Top Flite irons 3 to 8
- Ping Eye # 1 iron
- Taylor Made Bunner # 2 Iron
- King Cobra 52 wedge
- Sand Wedge 60
- Putter


Is this good to start golfing? Condition is good, but not sure it will be what I need. Thank you.

If your just starting to .. you really do not need all that stuff .. Heres a basic kit:

Golf Bag
Driver
Pitching Wedge
Sand Wedge
Putter
3 Iron
5 Iron
7 Iron
Iron 9
Golf Balls

The rest are not used at all as you become more comfortable and better golf.

Hi all. So I am trying to decide which gap to fill in my bag. This is my current configuration:
Driver: TaylorMade R7 TP Black Superquader
3 Wood: Cobra King Cobra
Hybrid: Excel Hybrid 21 *
3-PW: Taylor Made R7 Draw Irons
SW: PureSpin 56 * Wedge
P: Wilson Deep Red Fluid Feel

I use my SW to all my approach shots within 80yrds (less bump and runs). But to achieve shorter distances, I need to cut back on my swing which leads to inaccurate for me.

Also, I noticed a gap in the distance from my 3-wood ~ 230 240yrds and 3-hybrid ~ 210.But can not decide if I should be looking for a 5-wood to compose, hopefully in around 215-225yrds or simply get another corner.

I am constantly low and middle 90s, with my goal of being able to hit consistently high 80s (baby steps). Am I better off getting a lob wedge or 60 * ~ 5 W to add to my bag?

I would drop the 3 iron in my bag too but I was hitting 10-15 yrds shorter than my 21 * hybrid.
honestexpert @ @ cdc Thanks for the informative answers. I have some problems for Up & Down, which is where I lose most of my features.And my accuracy is not where it should be leading to higher scores, even if my remote is good. I might be easing a bit, but I need to start playing more.

I'm not going to no time here with my bag of upgrade because of finances. I'll have a 60 * corner, then a putter, then kick probably the 3-iron for a 5-wood. I generally go to Golfsmith demo and a lot of clubs used before resuming. I looked into the fitting, but I think I should really solidify my swing before I do that.

Well, good question first. If you start thinking about your distance gaps, then you start to become a better player he is.

Now, my suggestion would be to obtain a 60 * lob wedge, perhaps the CG14 Cleveland or Taylormade TP Black are my two favorites. The single-digit handicappers will all tell you that there is a gap 215-230 is much more manageable than not to have lost out quite long and rough create a certain rotation. The 60 * wedge in my bag is my greatest weapon is the club I practice as a good and you can save 5 + hits when we know how to use it properly.If you decide to go that route, I recommend, I suggest you practice with your wedge, as far as possible, because it can be a great weapon.
Logically, you do not touch your 5wood maybe 3 times in a cycle, then you can hit your corner of 10 times per round.

Invest in some corners well and will improve your game and your score.

As a side note, I would empty the 3iron and go with the 5 wood. It is much easier to choke down on a hybrid and try to stretch a 3iron.
