Can anyone who knows Scottish Gaelic tell me what the word leith means?
We recently bought a Victorian house with the name of Burnleith. We know that Kenneth Edward Burns (a famous Tasmanian Cricketeer of the time) had built the house, and appointed him Burnleith (tab sign as the original brass is still attached). However, I have no idea what the word means Leith and would find the definition. Thank you very much.

Other suggestions have been of the opinion that the word comes leeth, which means crosspoint, fish Lyth, leet or Lythe meaning or, finally, a word meaning meadow now lost, as suggested above .
